About

About me
Hi! Welcome to SwoofWare.com. My name is Matt. No, not that Matt. Matt Smith. No, not any of those Matt Smiths either. Maybe I’ll be on there someday but for now I am staying pretty busy with everyday life in beautiful Austin, TX. Of course, everyday life for me involves a day job, a side gig or two, my wife and three kids, Cub Scouts, various sport practices and games, this site, etc. The list just goes on and on. Sometimes I wish I had some type of super family calendar to keep track of it all. Oh wait, I’m currently working on one.

Professional
I officially started my professional career in February 1995 after I graduated from college and moved to Austin. In the 11 years that I’ve been here, I have worked for four different companies. I started out as a lowly Business Associate putting cover sheets on TPS reports but now hold the prestigious title of Application Architect. Unfortunately, I still have to make my own coffee.

Ever since we got our first PCs at my first job, I’ve been working almost exclusively with Internet technologies in one language or another. I still remember the day when I wrote my first HTML “Hello World” program. It’s been non-stop since: HTML, cgi, Perl, Python, PHP, ASP, Java, JavaScript, CSS, ASP.Net, C# and hopefully soon Ruby. You could almost say that I’m a Jack of all trades, master of none except my skills in all those areas go pretty deep and I can hold my ground in pretty much all of those areas. I take that back, while I did spend three years coding Java in a J2EE environment and I can dive into existing Perl/PHP/Python code to make changes (don’t ask me to do anything from scratch), I’m pretty much a Microsoft guy. I obviously do work with Anything But Microsoft (ABM) technologies (this site runs on WordPress which was coded with PHP and I stood up and customized MediaWiki at work) but I’m not a huge fan of the command line. From what I’ve seen I’d love to try the Apple side of the fence, but I just don’t have the glasses for it.
